Hi Team! This is my maiden blog - post inaugural, but better late than never applies, right? i've been trying to organize my pix for 2 days now. They're loading to snapfish as i type. i'll add a link when it's finished so you can view all my grainy shots. here's us at the cali bash, all dolled up and ready to meet queen latifah or those kids who sing "dear obama...bop bop bop!"

i'll have to backfill with comments and pix. it was all so exciting i'm not sure where to start. i'm glad we got to share this once in a lifetime experience together. i'm still processing and, in fact, having obama mania withdrawals. i'll do my best to carry on the spirit of our adventure.

There has has been Nat Guard scattered across the City for a coue days. Many of them, like these four in the pcture, are from Iowa. We like to welcome and thank them. they are so happy when we do it leads me ti beliege that their jobs are really thankless.

We are up, Erich's making us eggs, and we start walking to meet our other friends and then down to the capital at 520. We each presented our cold weather ensemble plans for group approval last night.

We can see people already walking down the street with their gear.

Today was not so good on the pics front. We got a late start and had to pick up our inauguration tix from our respective congressional reps. There was a line approx 4 city blocks long and about 4 deep to get into the bldg. It was the most fun I have ever had in a line. Ethan at Repm Woolsey's off ice reccomended that we get in line no later than 6. It's an hour walk. We are going to bed early.

I then walked around the Capital and saw the stage and where we will all be standing. Leslie and matt have tickets in the blue area, which is the closest "standing area," Erich and I and his friend Mandy have silver tickets which is the furthest standing area. But I have Grandma Eloise's binoculars and we have good cameras.

I did a 2 hour combination walk and jog (in my fancy wool coat with the fur collar) through the city back to Erich and Jessie's place that was 2 of the best hours of my life. More on that and other later while we wait in line and in our spots for hours before the inauguration.

Matt is walking to his hotel from our workout and just witnessed a presidential motorcade on Rock Creek Pkway. He was awestruck to take a photo.

There were circling helicopters many many many police, 4 or five dignitary cars and bomb squad/SWAT type of truck, but no presidential flags (you know, he ain't our POTUS yet). Matt is very excited.

We are heading down to the concert soon, although we just got a call from Erich's friend who says it's already packed w/ peeps.

But we need oatmeal!

Zipcar Altercation Haiku

So we got a Zipcar today to drive to D.C. Children's National Medical Center to feed the good Dr. Jessie Nance and see her in action (we listened in when she talked smart doctor stuff). When we returned the car to the garage, there was a problem with the Zipcar-provided parking ticket. It would not got into the slot. After several failed tries and several minutes, Erich just pushed the button and got a new ticket. The arm lifted and we rolled in.

A parking attendant ran to the car shouting and waving his fist. Erich rolled down the window and they got into it for a while. Bottom line, there has apparently been a problem with the Zipcar parking ticket system for some time and the parking ticket guy was going to take it out on us. He never calmed down. We drove away.

We were real mad. So on the walk to Matt & Leslie's hotel, I wrote a haiku, entitled "systemic parking ticket confusion." We then each took turns performing it. I would post it here, but it's inappropriate. But it was a great anger release. I highly recommend it.

This is a reminder that starting tomorrow your Inauguration tickets will be available for pick up in Congresswoman Woolsey's Washington office, located in Room 2263 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The Capitol South Metro Station, accessible from the Orange and Blue train lines, is the stop closest to the Rayburn Building. Please note that the office number in your original confirmation email may have been incorrect. Again, her office is located in Room 2263 of the Rayburn House Office Building. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Tickets will be available for pick up during the following hours:
Friday, January 16: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Saturday, January 17: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Sunday, January 18: 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Monday, January 19: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
These are the only times that tickets will be distributed. Please be advised that you will not be able to pick up tickets at any other time, including on Inauguration Day, Tuesday, January 20. Please bring your original confirmation email with your confirmation number when you come to pick up your tickets.

After the ceremony, please join Congresswoman Woolsey, her family and staff in 2261 Rayburn for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. We're all looking forward to seeing you in Washington. Safe travels!

Things to do before leaving for D.C.

So, you probably know that I, Matt, and Leslie will be visiting our friends Erich and Jessie in D.C. to attend President Obama's inauguration. Several people have requested that I set up a blog on which I can report from D.C. via Al Gore's Internet or cell-phone, so here it is. I thought it would be a good idea to test it out before going on the road.

Matt, Leslie, Erich and Jessie will all report too.

So here is my list of thing to do before I leave:

(1) Learn how to use blog
(2) Get 1 week free pass to Washington Sports Club
(3) Plan daily outfits, including outfit for CALIFORNIA INAUGURAL BASH, which we will be attending, thanks to Matt, make sure everything fits in carryon suitcase.
(4) Print resumes
(5) Email law school friends living in D.C.
(6) Dye hair, wax eyebrows.
(7) Set TiVO to record inauguration
(8) Don't forget Grandma Eloise's binocs
(9) Take change to Green Machine
(10) Load "Dave" onto video Ipod
(11) Stand outside in cold rain to acclimate to DC climate
(12) Think up pithy political stuff to say at DC bars and Inaugural bash. Make cheat sheet.
(13) Memorize names of new cabinet members and other important people. Make cheat sheet.

Next we'll test the phone!
